Love at First Bite - Epicurean Tales
There is a place in the heart of the Athenian Riviera, in the classy coastal hub of Vouliagmeni, where you can spend a whole day in a beautiful secluded bay. You’ll feel like you’re at a cool beach club somewhere in the Cyclades (perhaps even Mykonos!).
Krabo beach ambience
There is a place in the heart of the Athenian Riviera, in the classy coastal hub of Vouliagmeni, where you can spend a whole day in a beautiful secluded bay. You’ll feel like you’re at a cool beach club somewhere in the Cyclades (perhaps even Mykonos!). Perched right on the sand, as close to the sea as is gets, Krabo has all the perfect summer ingredients in the one place: a refreshing breeze, lush surroundings, excellent service, Mediterranean cuisine, signature cocktails, boho-chic charms and great tunes! Spend the whole day on the “Greek island” of the Athenian Riviera: Krabo Beach! Krabo opened in summer 2018 and has been an instant hit with Athenians and visitors to the city ever since. You can start your day swimming and sun bathing at the beach, relaxing on one of the premium sunbeds or stylish wooden cabanas. One could argue that Krabo is not the perfect beach for swimming, compared to others in the Vouliagmeni area, but you’ll struggle to find this kind of summer ambience and stellar service anywhere else in Athens.
A 24 hour venue
During sunset, when the sky becomes pink, is the ideal time to enjoy a dreamy dinner, accompanied by everyone’s favourite summer tipple - a chilled bottle of rose - or white wine (or perhaps, indulge in one of Krabo' signature cocktails). If you’re more of a night owl, you can also drink and dine later in the evening, when the music pumps up and Krabo becomes one of the most idyllic beach bar restaurants in town. Honestly, I don’t know what I like most about this place. Definitely the gorgeous location, swiftly followed by the feel-good ambience, hip decor, warm service, drinks and food, food, food!
Immersive service
What is really impressive about Krabo is the service. It is really a cut-above, not only in terms of pure dining focus, but also in the way they pay attention to the small details. For example: A friend of mine lost her earing while dining; when the waiter realised we were looking for something under the table, he immediately dropped down to try to help us find it. Another time, a friend of mine was trying to search shazam to find the name of the song the dj was playing at that time but he couldn’t find it. Just a few moments later, a waiter brought him a paper on which two or three songs the dj had played in a row were listed. This is what I call authentic hospitality, don’t you?

Mediterranean Cuisine #1
I don’t think that I have ever tried something at Krabo that I didn’t like. Being a sea food lover during summer time, most of the dishes I order tend to be seafood-based. In case you are a meat lover, you will find plenty of choices too (my friends rave about the beef carpaccio with lime and pickled cucumber). Loving urchins, as you can imagine, their linguini with urchin always hits the spot for me. The crawfish version is also delicious. I can also recommend the juicy salmon with asparagus, hollandaise jalapenos and pistachios from Aegina island, and the red mullet with ouzo and basil oil. When I look at the starters, I am tempted to order the whole menu because each appetizer is better than the one before. You should not miss the squid with fish roe dip, miso and urchin. It’s by far my favourite appetizer and I usually order two of them, even if we are only two people (it’s that delicious!) Grilled sardines with herbs, salmon ceviche with wasabi and yuru dressing, tuna tartare with avocado, chili, lime and sesame, the salad with shrimp and avocado are just few of the other delicious appetizer options.

Mediterranean Cuisine #2
Nothing makes my favourite meal sing more than my favourite rose wine, which is no other than the La Tour Melas Idylle! I consider it as one of the most unique, soft, full of taste and flavour rose varieties. Finally, it is time for the dessert! I’m usually not much of a sweet tooth but I can’t get enough of their “tsoureki” (something similar to a soft sweet bread, topped with vanilla ice cream and strawberries) or the rice pudding mousse with cinnamon ice cream. These are my proposals if you want to taste world-class Greek flavours in a splendid setting by the sea.
Athenian Riviera’s Jewel
As you’ll guess, Krabo beach is one of the places I adore most on the Athens Riviera during summer time, and when I say summer time in Greece, I’m talking about from April until September! Krabo Beach! The ultimate all-day summer hangout on the Athenian Riviera, just 20 kilometres away from the centre of Athens and the Acropolis. I hope that by reading this article it will become clear to all my readers that Krabo Beach is one of my absolute "must experience" recommendations! There are few better places to sample the glamorous Athenian Riviera lifestyle and feel like an in-the-know local. Even if you are visiting Athens just for a few days, dedicate one of them to indulging yourself in the fantastic hospitality and ambience of Krabo Beach. You’ll be sure to thank me!
