A hiking adventure to Irakleia’s natural and cultural wonders

Following the scenic hiking trail that starts and ends in the village of Agios Georgios, this tour combines natural and cultural wonders. Our first stop will be Iraklia Castle where your destination angel will take you on a small tour inside its ruins sharing at the same time the island’s historical facts, traditions and myths.

 

The imposing castle was built during the Hellenistic period around 323 BC and several centuries later, in 1831 AD four of the 10 families that inhabited Iraklia built their houses over the ruins of the ancient castle using its stones.

 

Moving on, our hiking adventure continues to Spirals, the ancient rock carvings that date to the prehistoric era and to this day their origins remain a mystery to scientists. On our next stop, we’ll visit an old windmill and reach a point that overlooks the bay of Vorini Spilia. Before returning back to the village, we’ll make a stop to capture the landscape as the sun sets on the horizon.
