Description
Santorini cuisine boasts extraordinary ingredients, thanks to the nutrient-rich volcanic soil. The salty natural taste, that characterizes the Santorinian products, is related to the sea and the volcanic terroir, on which indigenous grape varieties, fava beans, cherry tomatoes, figs, pistachios, and cappers are still growing, which are some of the products you are going to use and taste during this tour. Immerse yourself into a culinary journey full of exquisite tastes, beer and the authentic wine of Santorini.
Your gastronomic experience begins with your hands-on cooking lesson. A professional chef, will show you how to prepare Greek traditional dishes, using local products of the island. A unique culinary adventure through Mediterranean and local recipes is waiting for you! The brewing tradition on the island has been well known since prehistoric times already! When it comes to wine, Santorini makes a special case for attention. Wine-making can be traced in Santorini before the eruption of its legendary volcano, more than 3.700 years ago. You first wine experience awaits you!
Our next stop is Ftelos brewery, where you will learn all the secrets about the beer of Santorini. At Ftelos brewery, barley and wheat are still in use today to produce a bottle of fermented-non pasteurized (lager-pils) beer. Inside the contemporary brewery you are going to see how the beer gets from tank to glass.
Our next stop is Estate Argyros Winery, established in 1903. The new establishment is one of the most impressive on the island. Estate Argyros is an artisan producer crafting small quantities of top quality wines. The recipe in the cellar is that there is no recipe, with each plot being harvested, vinified and aged separately until very late in the production process.
On our way from Akrotiri to the Lighthouse, you will have a short stop at Faros Market! Awesome home-made preserves, organic local products, such as fava (split peas), capper, local cheese, sun-dried mini tomatoes, crackers, honey, good wine and many more, either from the owners’ farm or from selected small producers of Akrotiri, make it a "must visit in Santorini". Last but not least, our stop at the lighthouse of Santorini. When the setting sun glows its reddish colors on Santorini, the lighthouse at the south cape of the island is the perfect place to be! Far away from the crowds, you are going to realize why the sunset of Santorini is one of the most known around the world!
